Sunday 4th July
God rested so we can rest too
Genesis 2v2-3 (NIV)
2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.
3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
What types of rest are you thankful for?
How might you make one day a week a more restful day, when you stop your normal activities?
Rest is not just about refreshing your tired body. God's rest is also about knowing peace in your soul.
The Lord Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads. I will give you rest" (ICB). Let's think a bit more about the rest that Jesus offers to all.
Just as it's possible to feel restless even on a holiday, we can feel rested even in the busiest of times.
The rest Jesus offers, the rest for our souls, comes when we realise that we can cast our heavy cares and worries onto him, and even our sin onto him. He has dealt with it all by his death on the cross.
So why not come to him now and tell him what you are worried about. He wants to lighten your load.
PRAY: Dear Lord Jesus, thank you that rest is not wrong. In fact, you want us to rest! Please help us to rest physically as we stop doing some activities once in a week. Please also help us to rest spiritually as we realise you have done everything that was needed on the cross so we don't need to carry our burden of guilt any more. Thank you. Amen.
