The Bible is needed for life

Jesus said, ‘It is written: “Mankind shall not live on bread alone,

but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”'

Matthew 4:4

What did you have for breakfast this morning?

How do you feel when you skip breakfast?

Food is needed for us to live. But Jesus says the Bible is also needed for us to live.

Just as we need bread and cereal and everything else we eat to stay alive physically, so we need to take in God's Word (the Bible) regularly to stay alive spiritually. The Bible is the only way to knowing Jesus personally and to live forever. Jesus once asked Peter if he wanted to live the disciples. Peter replied, "Lord, who would we go to? You have the words that give eternal life" (John 6:68, ICB).

The music below is based on Psalm 119, and the psalmist says God's word saved his life (vv92-93). Well the same is true for every Christian. Why not play this music in the background.

Make a list of the 5 most important foods you eat.

Now rewrite the list with the Bible as no.1

Make a list of the 5 most valuable things you have.

Now rewrite the list with the Bible as no.1

Even Jesus needed his Bible, so how much more do we need to read it.

We not resolve to read a little bit each day, memorise one verse each week and pray for God's help to do it!
