Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure,
'children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.'
Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life.
— Philippians 2:14-16
We live in a dark world, but Christians will "shine like stars" if we live differently from those around us.
Here are 3 ways Christians should stick out:
2v5 - last week Paul said Christians should be humble like Jesus who went to the cross for us
2v14 - here Paul says we'll look different from our friends if we don't grumble or argue
2v16 - Christians should "hold firmly to the word of life" (listen to the Bible)
If we do this, others will notice the light we shine into every situation.
What are you tempted to grumble (moan/complain) about?
What are you tempted to argue about?
How will remembering what Jesus did on the cross help you to stop?
Can you think of examples of people who put others first without grumbling (as Paul does in v17-30)?
Thank you Father that Jesus did everything without grumbling, even going to the cross for me. Help me to be like him and stand out brightly today. Teach me how to be the light that encourages, serves and spreads your goodness everywhere I go. Thank you for the Bible, your word of life, which shows me how to live today and how to live forever. Amen.
